Cooler weather and changing leaves mean fall is here. It’s a beautiful time of year in New York, but with it comes flu season.

Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness that can lead to serious complications, hospitalization, or even death. Anyone can get the flu, and vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and those around you. Even healthy children and adults can get the flu and spread it to family and friends.

You may wonder, “Why do I need to get a flu shot every year?” Well, flu viruses are constantly changing, so vaccines may be updated from one season to the next to protect against the most recent and common strains. Also, your antibodies to flu vaccines decline over time, making annual vaccination necessary for optimal protection.
