CEO Updates for June

Jun 10, 2014 | Community Connections, Food Pantry, Foster Grandparents

Backpack Program

CEO works in partnership with individuals, families, and the larger community members by addressing their social, emotional, economic, and educational needs. A community need was brought to our attention and we are working to meet this need. The children of our community are in need of school supplies that are required at the beginning of the school year. Starting the school year on equal footing with other students, gives all children the chance and motivation to learn. Last year this program was able to help 410 children start the year off with a backpack filled with school supplies within Rensselaer County. The following supplies are being requested for donation:

  • #2 pencils
  • Colored pencils
  • Composition Notebooks
  • 1 Subject Spiral Notebooks
  • Crayons
  • Dry Erase Markers
  • Highlighters
  • Markers
  • Pens  Black/Blue
  • glue sticks
  • scissors
  • plastic pencil cases
  • 1” binders

CEO has the lofty goal of helping 650 children begin their school year with the supplies necessary for accomplishing their educational needs. Collection dates for these supplies are June 23- July 30. Drop off Location is the Service Navigator’s office at 2328 5th Avenue, Troy, NY  12180.

Empty Bowls

Empty Bowls is set for October 5th this year. 2014 presale tickets will be $15.00 and tickets sold at door will be $20.00. The CEO food pantry directly benefits from this event, so please mark your calendars and consider participating! You can enjoy a variety of delicious soups and at the end you’ll have a beautiful handmade bowl to take home.

Foster Grandparent Updates

CEO’s Foster Grandparent Program had two trainings in May.

Senior Corps Week was the week of 5/19 and grandparents planted seeds with kids either indoors or outside to celebrate. Below is a photo of Grandma Helen, who has been with CEO’s FGP program for 21 years, planting beans with the kids at the Corliss Park after school program:
