Community Action Day Activities

Community Action Day is next Friday, May 12th, and there are great activities planned across our agency. Community Action Day is part of a larger Community Action Month movement that over 1,000 Community Action Agencies in the network participate in every year. 2023 marks the 59th year since the Community Action Network was established to help American families and communities overcome the obstacles of poverty, and like in years past, this is a chance for our staff to get out in the community in ways we don’t normally do. Below is an outline of the activities happening across CEO:

CRC- Early Childhood Services 

Clean up of courtyard and weeding around beds, planting new flowers, host a clothing swap for families and customers.

Program Operations- Food Pantry, WIC VMA, Community Cares

Getting prepared food packages to communities identified as food deserts with a focus on families with children and senior citizens for whom transportation is often a barrier.

Program Operations- WIC

Volunteer at the warehouse for the Regional Food Bank.

SFRC

Clean up and planting at Nassau community locations: Nassau Senior Center/Community Center/Library and Resource center.

HFFRC

Clean up and planting at Cheney Library- 73 Classic Street Hoosick Falls, NY.

RFRC

Cleanup at two local playgrounds and clean up the area by the center (bus stop, storage areas).

UTC

Clean up the grassy area on 5th as well as the sidewalk around the UTC, plant flowers in pots to spruce up the UTC entrance.

LFRC

Clean up area around center and the neighborhood playgrounds (1st Ave & Corliss Park)

Admin

Fill the Truck Food Pantry donation event, Uncle Sam Trail clean-up in Lansingburgh.

Lastly, while Marketing will try to get out and about and take photos of the activities, any snapshots staff can take would also be appreciated. If you have the chance, please take a photo with your group holding the below Community Action sign, and send any photos along to phiggins@ceoempowers.org.
